Kamikaze Shot

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz (22.5ml) Vodka
  • 0.75 oz (22.5ml) Triple Sec (or Cointreau for a premium touch)
  • 0.5 oz (15ml) Fresh Lime Juice
  • Ice
  • Optional: Lime wedge or wheel for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: Place your shot glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the vodka, triple sec, and fresh lime juice to a cocktail shaker.
  3. Add Ice: Fill the shaker generously with ice cubes.
  4. Shake Well: Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds until the shaker is thoroughly chilled. This also helps to properly dilute and mix the ingredients.
  5. Strain: Remove the ice from your chilled shot glass (if applicable) and fine strain the contents of the shaker into the shot glass.
  6. Garnish (Optional): If desired, garnish with a small lime wedge or wheel on the rim.
  7. Serve Immediately: Enjoy your refreshing Kamikaze Shot!

Tips for the Perfect Kamikaze Shot

  • Fresh Lime is Key: Always use freshly squeezed lime juice. Bottled lime juice simply won't deliver the same bright, zesty flavour that defines a good Kamikaze.
  • Quality Spirits: While it's a shot, using a decent quality vodka and triple sec (or Cointreau) will significantly improve the taste.
  • Proper Chilling: Shaking with plenty of ice until the shaker is frosty ensures the shot is perfectly chilled and slightly diluted, making it smoother to drink.
  • Adjust Sweetness: If you find it too tart, you can slightly increase the Triple Sec or add a tiny dash of simple syrup. Conversely, if too sweet, increase the lime juice.

Variations

  • Cranberry Kamikaze: Add a splash (0.25 oz) of cranberry juice for a slightly sweeter, pinker version, sometimes called a 'Red Kamikaze'.
  • Blue Kamikaze: Replace Triple Sec with Blue Curaçao for a vibrant blue hue and a slightly different citrus note.
  • Fruity Kamikaze: Muddle a few raspberries or a slice of strawberry in the shaker before adding the other ingredients for a berry twist.
