Ingredients
- 2 oz (60ml) Vodka
- 4-6 oz (120-180ml) Fresh Orange Juice (to taste)
- Ice
- Orange slice or wedge, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Fill a highball glass generously with ice.
- Pour in the vodka.
- Top with fresh orange juice.
- Stir gently with a bar spoon to combine the ingredients.
- Garnish with an orange slice or wedge, if desired. Serve immediately.
Tips
- Fresh is Best: For the best flavour, always use freshly squeezed orange juice. Store-bought juice can work in a pinch, but fresh will elevate your drink significantly.
- Adjust to Taste: The ratio of vodka to orange juice can be adjusted to your preference. Some prefer a stronger drink, while others like it milder.
- Plenty of Ice: Using a good amount of ice keeps your Screwdriver cold without diluting it too quickly.
- Quality Vodka: While a simple drink, a good quality vodka will make a noticeable difference in the overall smoothness of your cocktail.
Variations
- Harvey Wallbanger: Transform your Screwdriver by adding a float of Galliano L'Autentico (a vanilla-anise liqueur) on top.
- Fuzzy Navel: Replace the vodka with Peach Schnapps for a sweeter, fruitier twist.
- Slow Comfortable Screw: Add Southern Comfort and Sloe Gin to your Screwdriver for a more complex, boozy concoction.
- Madras: Introduce a splash of cranberry juice (typically a 1:1:1 ratio of vodka, orange juice, and cranberry juice) for a tart and colourful variation.
- Sunrise: For a visual treat, add a splash of grenadine to the bottom of the glass after mixing, letting it sink for a 'sunrise' effect.
