Virgin Mojito

Ingredients

  • 10-12 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 whole lime, cut into 4-6 wedges
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (or 15ml simple syrup, adjust to taste)
  • 150-200ml soda water (or sparkling water)
  • Crushed ice
  • Garnish: Fresh mint sprig and a lime wedge or wheel

Instructions

  1. Muddle the Base: In a sturdy highball glass, add the fresh mint leaves, lime wedges, and granulated sugar. Using a muddler, gently press and twist the ingredients together. The goal is to release the oils from the mint and juice from the lime, not to shred the mint leaves.
  2. Add Ice: Fill the glass generously with crushed ice, almost to the top.
  3. Top with Soda: Pour the soda water over the ice, filling the glass.
  4. Stir Gently: Give the drink a gentle stir with a bar spoon to combine the muddled ingredients with the soda water.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a fresh mint sprig (clapping it between your hands first to release its aroma) and a lime wedge or wheel. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips

  • Don't Over-Muddle: Muddle just enough to release the oils from the mint. Over-muddling can make the mint taste bitter.
