Ingredients
- 2 oz (60ml) Vodka (your preferred brand)
- 4-6 oz (120-180ml) Soda Water (club soda or sparkling water), chilled
- 1 Lime wedge or wheel, for garnish
- Ice
Instructions
- Fill a highball glass completely with fresh ice cubes. Using plenty of ice will keep your drink colder for longer and prevent dilution.
- Pour 2 oz (60ml) of your chosen vodka over the ice.
- Top the glass with 4-6 oz (120-180ml) of chilled soda water. Adjust the amount to your taste preference – more soda for a lighter drink, less for a stronger one.
- Give it a gentle stir with a bar spoon to combine the ingredients. Avoid over-stirring, as this can flatten the soda.
- Garnish with a fresh lime wedge or wheel. Squeeze the lime into the drink before dropping it in for an extra burst of citrus.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your crisp Vodka Soda!
Tips
- Quality Ingredients: While simple, the Vodka Soda truly benefits from good quality vodka and fresh, fizzy soda water.
- Ice Matters: Use good quality, fresh ice. Large ice cubes or spheres melt slower, keeping your drink colder and less diluted.
- Chilled Glass: For an extra cold drink, chill your highball glass in the freezer for a few minutes before mixing.
- Fresh Lime: Always use fresh lime. The difference between fresh and bottled lime juice is significant.
Variations
- Flavoured Vodka: Experiment with citrus, berry, or even spicy flavoured vodkas for a new twist.
- Fruit Infusion: Muddle a few slices of cucumber, berries, or a sprig of mint at the bottom of the glass before adding ice for a subtle fruit infusion.
- Different Sodas: Swap out soda water for tonic water (making it a Vodka Tonic), grapefruit soda, or even a light ginger ale for a different flavour profile.
- A Splash of Juice: Add a small splash (e.g., 0.5 oz) of cranberry, pineapple, or grapefruit juice for a hint of sweetness and colour.
