Whiskey & Ginger
A timeless and effortlessly refreshing two-ingredient cocktail, the Whiskey & Ginger is a simple yet satisfying highball perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients
- 2 oz (60ml) Whiskey (Irish Whiskey, Bourbon, or Scotch)
- 4-5 oz (120-150ml) Quality Ginger Ale
- Lime wedge or wheel, for garnish
- Plenty of ice
Instructions
- Fill a highball glass generously with fresh ice cubes.
- Pour in the whiskey.
- Top with the ginger ale, leaving a little room at the top if desired.
- Give it a gentle stir for just a few seconds to combine the ingredients without losing too much fizz.
- Garnish with a fresh lime wedge or wheel. Serve immediately and enjoy!

- Quality Matters: While a simple drink, the quality of your ginger ale can significantly impact the taste. Opt for a good quality, flavourful ginger ale.
- Ice is Your Friend: Don't skimp on the ice. It keeps your drink cold and prevents excessive dilution too quickly.
- Whiskey Choice: Experiment with different types of whiskey. Irish whiskey offers a smooth, slightly sweet profile; Bourbon brings vanilla and caramel notes; and a lighter Scotch can add a touch of smokiness.
- Gentle Stir: Over-stirring will cause the ginger ale to lose its carbonation. A quick, gentle stir is all you need.
Variations
- Whiskey Ginger & Lime: For an extra burst of freshness, squeeze in about 0.5 oz (15ml) of fresh lime juice before adding the ginger ale.
- Spicy Ginger: If you like a kick, swap the ginger ale for a spicy ginger beer. Be mindful that ginger beer is much more potent in flavour.
- Aromatic Twist: Add a dash or two of Angostura Bitters for an added layer of complexity and aromatic spice.
- Minty Fresh: Muddle a few fresh mint leaves at the bottom of the glass before adding ice and whiskey for a refreshing herbal note.
